Hello Lykkers! If you’re gearing up for a trip to Prague, Charles Bridge is an absolute must-see.
This historic gem is one of the most iconic landmarks in the city, and we’ve put together everything you need to know to make your visit unforgettable.
Getting There and Around
Charles Bridge is located in the heart of Prague, connecting the Old Town with the Lesser Town (Malá Strana). The bridge is easily accessible whether you're coming from nearby hotels or other parts of the city. For public transportation, hop on metro line A to “Staroměstská” or tram lines 17 and 18 to “Karlovy Lázně” or “Malostranská” stations. From there, it’s a short walk to the bridge.
Opening Hours and Accessibility
One of the perks of Charles Bridge is that it’s open 24/7, which means you can visit whenever it fits your schedule. However, to experience the bridge at its best, plan your visit early in the morning or late in the afternoon. Midday tends to be crowded with tourists, which might make for a less enjoyable experience.
Costs and Fees
Here’s a great piece of news: walking across Charles Bridge is completely free! There’s no entrance fee, so you can enjoy the stunning views and historic atmosphere without spending a dime. However, if you’re interested in exploring additional attractions in the area, such as the Old Town Bridge Tower or the Lesser Town Bridge Tower, you will need to purchase tickets for those.
• Old Town Bridge Tower: Tickets cost around CZK 100 (about USD 4.50) for adults and CZK 50 (about USD 2.25) for students and seniors. The tower offers panoramic views of Prague and is worth the extra fee.
• Lesser Town Bridge Tower: This tower is a bit more expensive, with adult tickets priced at CZK 150 (about USD 6.75) and reduced tickets for students and seniors at CZK 75 (about USD 3.35).
What to See and Do
As you stroll across Charles Bridge, you’ll notice the 30 statues of saints that line the bridge. While the originals are housed in the National Museum, the replicas are impressive and add to the bridge’s historic charm. Make sure to check out the statue of Saint John of Nepomuk—legend has it that touching his relief will bring you good luck!
The bridge is also a vibrant spot with street vendors and artists selling everything from Czech souvenirs to unique artworks. It’s a fantastic place to pick up a memento or simply enjoy the lively atmosphere.
Travel Tips
1. Timing is Everything: For the best experience, try to visit early in the morning or during sunset. The light is beautiful and the crowds are thinner, making it easier to take in the sights and snap some great photos.
2. Stay Alert: With the crowds come pickpockets. Keep your valuables secure and be aware of your surroundings to avoid any mishaps.
3. Comfortable Footwear: The bridge and surrounding areas have cobblestone streets, so wear comfortable shoes to keep your feet happy as you explore.
4. Photography: Don’t miss the chance to capture the bridge from different angles. For breathtaking views of the city and river, consider climbing one of the nearby towers.
